All staff members I’ve met have been kind and considerate. When we arrived on the first day, as a full-day camper (not staying on campus over night), the owner took our son to a table of other campers to introduce him. The music production counselor took the time to have a long, impromptu conversation with me to answer questions I had (we were in town a few days early, so we attended the performance day, open to the public, for the previous session); he assured me everyone at camp was very kind and welcoming. Our son now would have preferred to stay on campus and he’d often lobby for more time playing air hockey with his friends before leaving for the day.
Over the time I spent at camp, dropping our son off and collecting him at the end of the day, the camp vibe is laid back and fun for the campers. The camp seems to be run like a small business with for focus on camper experience without stuffy corporate policy.
We’ve met many other parents who say their children have attended for several years.
On the two performance days we’ve now attended, the campers seem to greatly enjoy Camp Pillsbury. Campers are full of confidence and eager to support their peers. When I asked directions from an older camper they were thoughtful and helpful.
Our son chose to go tubing on a nearby lake every day; he made small wooden projects like a cutting board, coasters, and gem (from Zelda); he painted sets for the musical performance and built props; culinary arts was not an every day activity for him, but I am grateful for the cookies he brought home when he baked. Go carts were also in the rotation of his “Minors”. After performance day, our daughter is interested to try the circus activities (tumbling, juggling, and the silks and rings suspended from the gym ceiling in which performers spin and maneuver).
